Haunted Halloween Happenings
Halloween, I LOVE Halloween! Our yard is huge and I have skeletons and ghosts along the driveway, corpses hanging from trees, giant spiders in the bushes complete with giant webs and of course a big graveyard full of spooky things. We have had our picture in the local paper and a write up done on us several times (ok, ok, so I go overboard).
Many years ago I thought how much fun it would be to include Boogie in my Halloween fun so I dressed up as the grim reaper and rode around the country. It was fun but I wanted more so the next year I hid in the trees the run along our driveway and when a car would turn in I would leap out of the bushes on Boogie and jump across the road in front of the vehicle (good thing people drive slow around here). Now we were talking!!
The look on the faces of the parents was priceless (good thing no one had a weak heart) and the kids just ate it up. This was starting to be fun! After I crossed the road I would gallop (ok, a fast trot or slow lope) behind the car up to the house. I enjoyed this and the word spread that coming to our farm was the place to go and we started getting tons of visitors!
Well of course I thought of all those poor kids who couldn't make it out to our place so I decided I just had to take Boogie into our local town and haunt the school. Well, the first year was great! I rode all around the school in my grim reaper outfit totally creating chaos as the kids just swarmed to the windows to look and see what was outside! I had classes of kids coming out to see us and no one knew who we were until one grade 6 student ID'd me as he said I was the only one around with black horses and he had just been over for a hayride and recognized Boogie.
So now I have been doing this for 9 or 10 years and the kids and townspeople wait for me every year. I circle around the whole school looking in all the windows and I make sure to walk downtown and by the nursing home and a couple of times my kids even came for a ride. We have also been in the local paper several times with our different costumes.
A couple of years ago I was a caveman and Boogie was covered in hides. As I was walking down main street I asked this little old lady if she had seen any really good looking cavemen wandering around as I was looking for one. In all seriousness she looked up and down the street and then told me "No, I haven't seen any lately."
Last year we were a ghostly Viking team and went around threatening to chop off heads and we got quite a bit of candy! It was so cool, first time I collected treats! I'll have to remember the threats for next year!
